He is the son of Irish Catholic parents Peter Aloysius Morrissey and Elizabeth Ann Dwyer, who emigrated to Manchester from Crumlin, Dublin.
Morrissey’s paternal grandparents were Peter Morrissey and Ellen McDonnell.
Morrissey’s maternal grandparents were Patrick Stephen Dwyer and Bridget “Betty” McImermey.
Morrissey is a second cousin, once removed, of Irish footballer Robbie Keane.
