John Landis is an American director, screenwriter, actor, and producer. He is known for helming the 1980 movie The Blues Brothers.
He is the son of Jewish parents Shirley Levine (née Magaziner) and Marshall Landis.
John’s paternal grandparents were Maxwell Landis and Muriel Davidson.
John’s maternal grandparents were Harry A. Magaziner (the son of Bernard Magaziner and Lena Speck) and May Potasky (the daughter of Louis J. Potasky and Elizabeth Phal). Harry and May were born in Ohio, and all of their own parents were born in Russia.
