Rebecca Sugar is an American animator, composer, and director. She is the first female to create a cartoon. Her brother, Steven Sugar, was the background artist for Steven Universe.
Rebecca was raised Jewish and had a Bat Mitzvah ceremony. Her mother’s maiden name, “Rea”, may indicate that her mother is of non-Jewish (possibly Irish or Scottish) ancestry.
Rebecca’s paternal grandparents were Marvin H. Sugar and Thelma.
