Emma’s paternal grandparents were Mel Ferrer (Melchor Gastón Ferrer, the son of José María Ferrer and Mary Matilda Irene O’Donohue) and Audrey Hepburn (born Audrey Kathleen Ruston, the daughter of Joseph Victor Anthony Ruston and Ella, Baroness van Heemstra). José was Cuban, with Spanish ancestry. Mary was American, and had Irish ancestry. Joseph was born in Úžice/Auschiz, Bohemia, and was of approximately one quarter English and three quarters Austrian ancestry. Emma’s great-grandmother Ella was of almost entirely Dutch descent, and had some remote non-Dutch roots (she had 1/128 French ancestry, as well as remote English roots on a similarly distant level).
