Jaz Coleman is a British singer, songwriter, musician, composer, and record producer. He is the lead singer and keyboardist of the rock band Killing Joke.
Jaz is the son of Gloria H. (Pandy) and Ronald A. Coleman, both school teachers. Jaz’s father has English ancestry, and Jaz’s mother is of half Indian and half English descent.
Jaz’s maternal grandparents were John C. Pandy (the son of Mangal Pandey) and Bertha A. Stevens. John’s great-grandfather Mangal was a soldier who led the insurrection against the British in 1857. Jaz has also said that his grandfather John was the first prime minister of India’s brother, making Jaz himself the great-nephew of India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
Jaz is often described as having a half Bengali Indian mother. Given that Jawaharlal Nehru had Kashmiri Indian ancestry, this is probably not the case.
