Eva Perón was the First Lady of Argentina, from 4 June 1946 until her death on 26 July 1952, as the wife of Argentine President Juan Perón. She was his second wife. Eva was also the President of the Eva Perón Foundation from 1948 until her death. Eva was the subject of the musical Evita (1976), which was later adapted into a major 1996 film starring Madonna as Perón.
Eva was the daughter of Juan Duarte Etchegoyen and Juana Ibarguren Núñez. Her paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather were Basques, while her maternal grandmother was likely of Spanish ancestry. Her Basque roots are from Spain and Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France. She also had distant Italian and Portuguese ancestry.
Eva’s paternal grandparents were Francisco Duarte Uhart (the son of Jean Uhart and Marie Chaldu) and María Etchegoyen (the daughter of Juan Mancechena and Marie Etchegoyen).
Eva’s maternal grandparents were Joaquín Ibarguren Arandia (the son of Martín José Ibarguren Oriozabala and Josefa Joaquina Arandia Galarza) and Petrona Núñez Prigotto (the daughter of Antonio Núñez and Pabla Prigotto).
