Danilo Medina is a Dominican politician, who has been the President of the Dominican Republic since 16 August 2012. He is the son of Juan Pablo Medina de los Santos and Amelia Sánchez Abréu. He is married to Cándida Montilla Espinal.
Danilo’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his eighth great-grandfather, Alonso de Medina, of Seville, Spain.
Danilo’s paternal grandparents were José María Medina Báez (the son of Gaspar Medina Báez and Ana Joaquina Báez Tejeda) and Lucía Blasina de los Santos. Gaspar was the son of Juan Pablo Medina Báez and María Josefa Báez del Villar. Ana Joaquina was the daughter of Cristóbal Báez del Villar and María del Socorro Tejeda Peña.
Danilo’s maternal grandparents were Isael Sánchez de León (the son of Gabriel Sánchez de León and Faustina de León) and Ana Rita “Anita” Abréu Sánchez (the daughter of Buenaventura Abréu and Ana Teresa Sánchez Veloz). Gabriel was the son of Pedro Sánchez Romero and Bumba de León. Ana Teresa was the daughter of Matías Sánchez Romero and Carmita Veloz.
