George Wallace was an American politician. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as Governor of Alabama, from January 14, 1963 to January 16, 1967, January 18, 1971 to January 15, 1979, and January 17, 1983 to January 19, 1987.
George was the American Independent Party’s nominee for President of the United States in 1968. He was also a candidate for the Democratic Party’s nomination for President of the United States in 1964, 1972, and 1976.
George was the last non-major party candidate to date to have received a pledged electoral vote for president, in 1968.
George was the son of Mozelle (Smith) and George Corley Wallace.
George’s paternal grandfather was George Oscar Wallace (the son of George Huey Wallace and Mary Ann Fleming). George’s great-grandfather George was the son of Allen Wallace and Eleanor Huey. Mary Ann was the daughter of Oliver Fleming and Olive Bradford.
