Itamar Franco was a Brazilian politician. A member of the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party, he served as President of Brazil, from 29 December, 1992 to 1 January, 1995. He was also the 21st Vice President of Brazil, from 15 March, 1990 to 29 December, 1992, and the 36th Governor of Minas Gerais, from 1 January, 1999 to 31 December, 2002, among other duties.
President Franco was the son of Italia (Cautiero) and Augusto César Stiebler Franco. His father was born in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, Brazil, to a Brazilian father and a German mother. His mother was born in Taruaçu, Minas Gerais, Brazil, to Italian parents, from Venice, Italy.
President Franco’s paternal grandfather was Archimedes Pedreira Franco (the son of Atabalipa Gê Acaiaba Americano da Luz Franco and Amélia Pedreira).
President Franco’s paternal grandmother was Mathilde Stiebler (the daughter of Karl Adolpho Frederico Stiebler and Marie Henriette Stephane). Mathilde was born in Hamburg, Germany.
