David Bergland is an American politician and writer.
David was the Libertarian Party’s nominee for Vice President of the United States, in 1976, and for President of the United States, in 1984.
David is the son of Gwendolyn B. (McCalman) and Cedores Phillip Bergland. His father was born in North Dakota, of Norwegian ancestry. His mother was of Irish, German, English, and Scots-Irish (Northern Irish) descent.
David’s paternal grandparents were Andrew Almond Bergland (the son of Peder Pederson Bergeland and Kari Marie Hansdatter Fatland) and Otilda Martha Winge (the daughter of Peder Willumson Winge and Gjertrude Greisdatter). Andrew and Otilda were both born in Minnesota, to Norwegian parents.
David’s maternal grandfather was Carl Spencer McCalman (the son of Robert McCalman and Catherine Conklin). Robert was the daughter of Jesse/John S. McCalman/McCalmont and Elizabeth Armagost. Catherine was the daughter of Samuel Conklin and Mary E. Eberly.
David’s maternal grandmother was Stella S. Martin (the daughter of ? Martin and ? McGann). Stella was born in Wisconsin, to an Irish father and a Massachusetts-born mother.
