Walter’s paternal grandparents were Rafael Mercado and Clotilde Irizarry (the daughter of Fidel Irizarry and Luisa Ramirez). Fidel was the son of the son of Ramón Santos Irizarry. Luisa was the daughter of Juan Antonio Ramírez and Dolores Pabón.
