John Connally was an American politician. As a member of the Democratic Party, he served as a United States Secretary of the Navy, from January 25, 1961 – December 20, 1961, Governor of Texas, from January 15, 1963 – January 21, 1969, and United States Secretary of the Treasury, from February 11, 1971 – June 12, 1972. He switched to the Republican Part in 1973.
He was a candidate for the Republican Party’s nomination for President of the United States in 1980.
He was in the car with President John F. Kennedy during Kennedy’s assassination, and was himself seriously wounded.
John was the son of Lela (Wright) and John Bowden Connally.
John’s paternal grandfather was John Wesley Connally (the son of Charles Price Connally and Rebecca Smith). Charles was the son of Charles Connally and Nancy E. Stokes.
John’s paternal grandmother was Louise Wardell Duke.
