Jay was the son of Kathryn/Katharine (Guzzino) and Timothy Harry Terrell, Sr. Jay was raised in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Jay had two sons with his wife, Sally Michelson. Jay was also the biological father of country music songwriter J. T. Harding.
