Shyne is a Belizean rapper and politician. As a rapper, he is known for his time on Bad Boy Records from 2000 to 2001. In Belize, he has been Leader of the Opposition, from June 25, 2021 to September 16, 2021, and a Member of the Belize House of Representatives for Mesopotamia, since November 11, 2020.
Shyne is the son of Frances Imeon Myvette and Dean Barrow, who served as the Prime Minister of Belize from 2008 to 2020. His aunt (mother’s siter) is Belize politician Michael Finnegan, who was the previous Representative of Mesopotamia before Shyne. Shyne has stated that his mother has partial Ethiopian Jewish ancestry.
He grew up in Brooklyn, New York City. In 2006, he legally changed his name to Moses Michael Levi Barrow after converting to Orthodox Judaism.
Shyne’s paternal grandfather was Arthur Innes Barrow (the son of Ebenezer Oliver Buntin Barrow and Iris Sebastian).
Shyne’s paternal grandmother was named Joyce Erica Lindo.
