Family info: Lars Ulrich is a Danish drummer and one of the founding members of American heavy metal band Metallica.
He was born to Lone (née Sylvester-Hvid) and Torben Ulrich, from Frederiksberg, Denmark.
His paternal grandparents were tennis player Einer Ulrich, born in 1896 in Copenhagen to parents Ellen Margrethe (née Wiegell) and Aage Louis Francis Ulrich, and his Jewish wife Ulla Meyer.
After the Nazi occupation of Denmark in 1940 the family decided to stay in the country; as a result, they were persecuted. So they escaped to Sweden but after the end of the war they moved back to Denmark.
Lars Ulrich moved to the US in 1980 when he was 17 years old.
