Tom Tugendhat is a British politician and journalist. A member of the Conservative Party, he has been Chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, from 12 July 2017 to 7 September 2022, and Minister of State for Security, from 6 September 2022 to 5 July 2024, as well as, a Member of Parliament for Tonbridge and Malling/Tonbridge, since 7 May, 2015. He was an officer in the British Army reserves, in the Territorial Army; serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and later as a military assistant to the Chief of the Defence staff.

Tom is the son of Blandine de Loisne and The Hon. Mr Justice Tugendhat (Michael George Tugendhat), or Tugendhat J in legal writing, a High Court judge in England and Wales. His uncle is Conservative Party politician, businessperson, and author Lord Tugendhat (Christopher Samuel Tugendhat), who has been First Vice-President of the European Commission, from 6 January 1981 to 5 January 1985, Chancellor of the University of Bathm, from 1998 to 2013, and a Member of the House of Lords, since 15 October, 1993. Tom’s mother is French.

Tom is married to lawyer and French civil servant Anissia Morel, with whom he has two children. He has dual U.K. and French citizenship. Tom is Catholic.

Tom’s paternal grandfather was Georg Tugendhat. Georg was born in Vienna, and was an Austrian Jewish to England. He later converted to Catholicism. He founded a petrochemical refinery in Manchester.

Tom’s paternal grandmother was Marie Littledale.
