Bud Cort was an American actor, and filmmaker. His roles included the films M*A*S*H (1970), The Strawberry Statement, Gas! -Or- It Became Necessary to Destroy the World in Order to Save It., The Traveling Executioner, Brewster McCloud, Harold and Maude, Hallucination Strip, Why Shoot the Teacher?, Die Laughing, Love Letters, Hysterical (1983), The Secret Diary of Sigmund Freud, Electric Dreams, Maria’s Lovers, Invaders from Mars (1986), Love at Stake, Out of the Dark (1988), The Chocolate War, Brain Dead (1990), Ted & Venus, which he also directed and co-wrote; Girl in the Cadillac, Theodore Rex, Sweet Jane, Dogma, But I’m a Cheerleader, South of Heaven, West of Hell; The Million Dollar Hotel, Coyote Ugly, Pollock, Made (2001), The Big Empty (2003), The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The Number 23, and The Little Prince (2015); the made-for-tv movies Bernice Bobs Her Hair, Brave New World (1980), Bates Motel (1987), and And the Band Played On (1993); and the shows The Mask: Animated Series and Superman: The Animated Series.
Bud was the son of Alma Mary, a reporter for the Daily Item and the Standard Star, and for MGM’s New York office; and Joseph Parker Cox, a bandleader, pianist, and merchant. His parents opened and operated men’s clothing store the Prep Shop, on Purchase St., in Rye; later known as J.P. Cox, Ltd.
Bud’s maternal grandfather was named Walter Court.
Bud’s maternal grandmother was named Beatrice Saulrier (the daughter of Thomas Saulrier and Agnes). Beatrice was born in Nova Scotia, Canada.
