Arthur Meighen was a Canadian lawyer and politician. He served as Prime Minister of Canada, from July 10, 1920 to December 29, 1921, and again from June 29, 1926 to September 25, 1926. His party affiliation was Conservative (1908-1917), Unionist (1917-1922), Conservative again (1922-1942), and then Progressive Conservative (1942-1960).
Prime Minister Meighen was the son of Mary Jane (Bell) and Joseph Meighen.
Prime Minister Meighen’s paternal grandparents were Gordon Meighen (the son of Arthur Meighen) and Isabella Irwin (the daughter of Samuel Irwin and Mary Margaret McFarlane). Gordon was a Presbyterian from Londonderry, Ireland. Isabella was also from Londonderry.
Prime Minister Meighen’s maternal grandparents were Henry G. Bell (the son of Eliza J. Driver) and Margaret Jane Nesbitt.
